Life is all about the connections we make and the impressions we leave. Especially the meaningful ones.
For sisters Anna and Alexandra a strong connection to their Latin American roots and a fascination with global artisanal products and the people who create them, led to the launch of Playa Goods - a fair trade, socially responsible online shop offering bright and beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces for your home and life sourced from all over the world.
Growing up living and traveling abroad, Anna & Alexandra were able to visit various countries and connect with many indigenous people who create beautiful textiles and artisan work. These connections and impressions are the ones that have stayed with them throughout the years as they now raise their own families along the California shores.
"We are stay-at-home moms who one day after one of our many beach trips, shook off our Mexican blankets, folded our Turkish towels and put everything into our Vietnamese sea grass baskets, and thought how great it would be to represent products from all over the world and tell their stories."
The story each piece tells is woven throughout these beautiful textiles. Perhaps one of my favorites is this tribal vintage fabric bunting garland handmade in a Northern Thailand village by a woman named Kai. The love and pride poured into every unique piece she makes helps to provide jobs and sustainability within her village.
Along with incredible textiles, Playa Goods also has an adorable offering of books, toys and home accents just for kids. This is my go-to for special gifts such as eco-friendly handmade puppets, Peruvian dolls and hand woven Guatemalan bibs that provide opportunities to the weavers including scholarships and school supplies for their children, home improvements, micro-lending, skills training, and domestic violence classes. It doesn't get much better than that.
Through the good graces of social media, I was lucky enough to connect with Anna & Alexandra, learn more about their mission and fall in love with Playa Goods. (p.s. their Instagram is follow-worthy!)
Their positive energy, authenticity and passion to help reduce poverty in the villages of the artisans that make these beautiful items shines through in the products they sell and stories they tell. Now that's the power of connectivity.
